The Ocoee starts at our back door
The river that runs through McCaysville and Copperhill is called the Toccoa in Georgia. The moment it crosses into Tennessee, it becomes the Ocoee. Head west on US-64 and you follow it through the gorge to the Upper Ocoee, home of the 1996 Olympic whitewater course, and on to the Middle Ocoee, where most rafting trips run.
Whether you're paddling, hiking the trails at the Whitewater Center, or just driving the scenic byway, Copperhill is the easy place to stop for a real meal.
What river crews order
- Lamb/Beef Maza Plate: shawarma over Lebanese rice with hummus, medley, feta, olives and pita. It refuels a paddler.
- Shawarma wraps: the Nassir, Ferris or Louie Louie, rolled tight and easy to eat on the go.
- Buck Bald Bowl: everything from the wrap, over a bed of fresh hummus.
- Vegetarian? Hummus and baba bowls, grape leaves and veggie maza plates.
- Baklava and fresh mint tea for the drive home.
Feeding the whole raft?
Family Maza Platters serve 4 or more ($16 per person): lamb/beef and chicken, hummus, Lebanese rice, medley, feta, olives and pita. Call (706) 851-0280 a day ahead for groups of 10 or more, and we'll have it ready when your crew gets off the river.
